Uniform {worn}

I've adopted a uniform. If only my "ohmygosh why are you trying to stifle my creative soul by forcing me to wear this hideous uniform!!!" 15-year-old self could see me now as I happily put on some version of leggings, a top, and comfortable shoes every day. I'd also like to give my former self, the one who claimed leggings weren't pants, a swift kick. Toddler mamahood is hard and if the only way I can get through it is by wearing stretchy pants, then I say rock on.

This is the "edgier" version of my uniform. I mean as edgy as a suburban mom can get. Although, my twenty-something daughters informed me that only middle age moms where leather looking leggings! Whatever. One of the benefits of being a middle aged mom is that I left all the damns I had to give back in my thirties!

I know I'm not alone when I say that along with sleep, a mess free house and the ability to shower without an audience another casualty of parenting little ones is being able to spend quality time with your partner. The quiet afternoons sipping coffee and doing crosswords or snuggling on the couch to binge watch a favorite show are few and far between. And, date nights are, at this point, nonexistent. Which is why I was thrilled when my hubby suggested we go to the ballet! We couldn't pull together arrangements to make the Friday evening performance so we made a day of it on Saturday!

It finally felt like fall this weekend but I wasn't going to pass up the chance to get fancy!

We saw The Cincinnati Ballet production of Coppélia. It was adorable and lighthearted. And of course, the sets and the dancing were amazing!

Also, if you ever have the chance to have your picture taken with a ballerina or two, go for it!

it's finally starting feel like fall around here! i celebrated by breaking out my boots!! we headed to a local farm on sunday morning for the annual sunflower festival.

i've been pining for a pair of frye boots for the longest time! i've purchased several non frye pair in my look for less quest. alas, none of them got it quite right. i finally decided to treat myself and i ordered them! as soon as they got here i felt guilty so, i sent them back. can you guess what happened next? i regretted not keeping them! ha! i once again logged on to amazon to order. this is where the story gets good...i looked up my beloved boots and they had one pair in a half size bigger than my normal size BUT they were only $170...and i had a $30 amazon credit!! you guys, i bought a pair of frye boot for a $140!! they fit perfectly too!

they were probably not the best choice for a messy, muddy morning of the farm but hashtag YOLO ;) i came home and let the mud dry. brushed it off and they still look great!

By the end of August I think most of us are ready to say goodbye to the long, hot and hazy days of summer. I'm so ready for fall in all of it's booted, layered and pumpkin spiced glory!

I've been in mom style mode. Essentially wearing what is easiest and most comfortable for everyday kid wrangling! Before I had Rowan I thought I would be able to maintain my sense of style and sense of self. Yeah. Not so much,

In the past few months my interest in fashion has been reignited. My own style has shifted and I'm actually starting to feel excited about getting dressed again.

There a few things I want to add to my fall wardrobe. I'm so excited to be attending the Macy's Fashion Front Row event at Easton Town Center! Saturday September 17, Macy's will be throwing the hottest shopping party of the season!  Music, fun and fashion on a Saturday afternoon. Yes, please! You'll get to see the seasons latest trends and talk style with fashion insiders, Candace Read from LiveLoveandRead and Alexis Duffy and Alicia Ritchie of WanderandWhine. I'm especially excited to meet one of my favorite Project Runway All-Stars Alum, Asha Ama Daniels

Did I mention the event is free?! Yaassss! Join me next week to get your fashion fix!

i've been hitting up the local thrift stores in search of a coffee table, bookcases and lamps to makeover in order to give our living room some much needed style. i haven't found anything i can use for that project but i have found some amazing things to add to my closet!

in the past, i've posted my love of american eagle jeans! they are a super stretchy and high waisted marvel of modern engineering. i've loved the artist flares but it's been too hot to think about jeans. i found a pair at the salvation army that fit like a dream! i also scored an anthropologie dress and a buttery soft leather handbag for a total of $10!

i think all of these items will work well as we transition from late summer into fall!

early(ish) 40s is an odd age. it's very similar to those sometimes awkward tween years. i don't feel as old as the calendar likes to remind i am. i would rather spend a friday with a glass of wine and keith morrison (i'm a true crime addict!) than going out because no pants are the best pants! however, i'm blessedly old enough that i give zero damns about the judgement of strangers.

women's bodies have always been heavily policed but once i hit 40 i noticed in spades. magazines and websites are constantly blasting us with what is appropriate- hair color, swimsuits, lipsticks, skirt lengths. i'm certain that these shorts would most likely put me on someone's worst dressed list. to some, they are probably scandalously short! but i love them! seriously, navy lace! what's not to love? and, most importantly, i felt good in this outfit! i'm excited to dress them up and wear them for a night out with my husband!

summer has officially arrived in all of her hazy, hot, and humid glory! these days the requirements for getting dressed are simple. it must be comfortable. it must be cool. it must be toddler friendly.

this dress is a resounding yes for all three! bonus, it's super affordable! it comes in three different patterns. i bought all three and i've basically been living in them.

i don't even know if this counts as an outfit because it feels like i'm wearing pjs! i've dressed it up with heels, a belt and accessories. i've thrown it over a swimsuit to run to the store. i've worn it with flat sandals. these dresses have become a wardrobe staple! fingers crossed they make a similar version for fall!

this dress, you guys. it is a favorite from my anthropologie #alldayeryday life. sigh. i miss the days when i wore a dress and heels because i could!

it also feels really, really good to be able to fit into some of my old favorites again. true story. i mean that top button may be on the struggle bus but the side zipper went up without any trouble or assistance from my husband!

i'll let you in on a little secret, i love dressing my little guy! i know girls have so many options but together outfits for a little boy can be so much fun! i decided early on that i would approach his wardrobe the same way i approach mine- color, pattern and print. i look for good quality basics with fun touches to give his outfits a whimsical twist. i can always find something for him at osh kosh!

i brought my oldest home from the hospital in an osh kosh outfit! who could have guessed almost 25 years later i would still be shopping for kids clothes!

i'm in love with the modern mix of colors and the quirky twist on a preppy staple, the embroidered shorts. his have dinosaurs!!

he looks absolutely adorable but can still run and play! toddlers are mess magnets! #truestory his things from osh kosh hold up like a dream so i never worry that he may be jumping in mud puddles in his adorable easter outfit!!

this outfit is perfect for easter sunday but also hanging out with mom on a monday afternoon running errands and eating easter cookies!

ditsy floral, ankle boots, distressed denim and a pop of neon- this outfit feels a little early 90s in the best way! also, shifts are my new favorite. they are forgiving and easy to wear. i need more of these in my life. i added some blue to my hair. i may be going thru some kind of mid-life crisis but i'm in love with it!
