I read somewhere that when a woman embraces the color pink, she’s in her healing era. I declared the year I turned 50 my “year of pink”. Looking back on it, I can say that it flipped a switch. I embraced softness, gave myself grace, and welcomed the wisdom that comes with growing older.
If pink represents healing, what does red represent?
I love color. My closet looks like a bag of Skittles. But, there is a noticeable lack of red. It’s always seemed too bold, too “look at me”. However, lately, it has drawn me in like the proverbial moth to the flame.
Red is a vibe. It demands attention and celebrates confidence. And this skirt in all of its drapey goodness with the high slit is not for the timid.
This look came together in a “what if I..” kind of way. I wondered what would happen if I celebrated a random weekday with the same uninhibited joy as a Saturday night.
I paired this vibrant, high-slit red skirt with a bold graphic sweatshirt, a hand-me-down inherited from my oldest son. I love the combination of drama and playfulness. The nostalgia of my childhood paired with the woman I am today.
The leopard print wedge sneakers were a serendipitous find in the Aldi aisle of shame! They’re my not-so-secret weapon when I want to feel grounded and fearless. They add a little edge without sacrificing comfort.
This outfit is a love letter to contradictions: bold and cozy, polished and undone, casual but intentional. It's for the days when you want to feel powerful and playful, rooted and rising.
Style Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix prints or textures. Personal style is how you tell YOUR story. There are no rules.
Feeling Inspired?
Try pairing your favorite bold piece (a red skirt, a pair of floral print pants, those sparkly boots you’ve been saving for a special occasion) with something unexpected from your closet. Then, wear it like it’s already a classic.
To paraphrase Eminem…you are the moment, so own it.
With love and whimsy,
